Store Review: the Lax Shop

Location: There are 2 locations- I checked out the one in Chicago

Distance from Millennium Park: 6 miles northwest/ 20 minute drive

The goods/ services: Men's and women's sticks, custom stringing, field equipment, apparel (shirts, shorts, hats, cleats, socks, pinnies)

The biz: It's always interesting to venture outside the hotbed of lax and see how other areas promote the sport. I visited the Lax Shop last year when I was in Chicago and was pleasantly surprised. It's a small shop but has a great selection and knowledgeable staff. Though the box game was absent from the shop, the staff expressed interest in expanding to accommodate box players.

In the back of the store there's a glassed-in space lined with turf and a net at one end. It was cool to see a designated spot where equipment and sticks could be tested. I only have the photo below from my visit, but you get the idea:

Another interesting thing I noticed when walking out, was a board that had lists of leagues looking for players/ coaches and a list of coaches looking for opportunities. Pretty solid way to connect in a huge city.

My thoughts: The in-store effort to connect people in the lacrosse community with each other was awesome to see. The merchandise was awesome too- from bigger brands like Maverik and Warrior to Thompson cleats and True Lacrosse shirts. Little shop, big selection- for the field game anyway.

Visit www.thelaxshop.com for more information and to view their products and merchandise.
